I started this series of paintings because I needed subjects to paint.  I decided to paint a flower for every letter of the alphabet.  I started the series in 2004 and completed it in 2008, with breaks in between. 

Of course, I also got hooked on tulips, orchids, sunflowers and daisies for a while before knuckled down and finished the series.

I quickly realized that I would never run out of flowers to paint.  Whenever I feel I need to improve my technical skills I will return to the flowers.  The most challenging flowers are white and the variegated colors.
